As the time goes on, everything is subject to something known as evolution, the process of expanding, upgrading or changing something to make it more suitable for the environment it is within. Be it trees, animals or any other species, this is always true. How this evolution happens is that, the genes of each animal, is like a large database where the animal’s entire information is encoded. From generation to generation, these genes carry the basic information required to adapt to the environment and the specific traits the older generations have learnt that enabled them to survive.

Gene flow is basically concerned with the temporal and spatial study of the flow of these genes. Consider giraffes. The long necks evolved through the temporal flow of the genes enabled them to survive from going extinct thousands of years ago. When trees evolved to grow high and evolved to generate inedible and sometimes poisonous leaves on the ground levels, giraffes evolved to have a longer neck which enabled them to nibble on the top leaves. Consider a small flock of birds. Gene flow would be a determining factor in deciding how far they would populate, in which conditions would they thrive and what local adaptations could arise in long term and many more other things. Supporting a positive gene flow would be a matter between the thriving or the full extinction of an entire species. What we hope to achieve through GeneX is to get this message out and help people take positive steps to support gene flow.
